Our Story
I've always had a hard time fitting in, never found it easy to make friends. I have always been into solitary hobbies; crafting, painting, drawing. But nothing ever stuck, I got bored, or burnt out very easily, nothing I found inspired me. Until 2019 when I was wheelchair bound, due to a spinal injury. That's when I learned to crochet. I had wanted to learn for years, but never got someone to teach me.
I needed something to keep me busy, something that I could do sitting in a chair for hours on end. So, I bought a cheap set of crochet hooks from Amazon and some yarn from Joann Fabrics. I found crochet tutorials on YouTube and got to work. It was a lot of trial and error...more error than trial, and taking me almost giving up completely to find out that I absolutely loved to crochet.
Crochet (and reading) kept me sane while I was healing from spinal surgery in 2020 and got me back on my feet.
Fast forward two years, and one cesarean section later.
I was living in survival mode. Color and joy were stripped from my life. I was judged for "being a grandma" and preferring to stay in and read or crochet, instead of going out. I experienced things that no one should experience in ten lifetimes, never mind one. If it weren't for my son and crochet, I don't know if I would be here today.
While on my journey to healing myself and learning who I had become, I created Cuddle Me Close Crochet. I remembered that dream I had of selling the things I made with my hands from yarn, and making people happy and I ran with it.
Well, let's be honest, I got excited, was in over my head, took a break, then I went full steam ahead. Now, I've just launched not only my own website, that I created from nothing, but my very first collection as well. And what else would be fitting but a collection for book lovers?
What's to come for Cuddle Me Close Crochet? Who can say, my imagination doesn't seem to have a limit. Whatever it is, I can promise it will NEVER be boring!
